Wachovia Center for Corporate Finance

The mission of the Wachovia Center for Corporate Finance at the Kenan-Flagler Business School is to promote excellence in corporate finance education, research, and outreach at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The Center serves to promote timely, relevant, and rigorous research in corporate finance to establish The University of North Carolina, Kenan-Flagler Business School, as a premier institution in the field. The Center strives to promote excellence in education, serving as a bridge between the theory and practice of corporate finance. Promoting the  development of a rigorous and practical corporate finance curriculum with an emphasis on current issues and innovative teaching strategies is an important objective of the Center.

The Center will serve as a bridge between the theory and practice of corporate finance.  The research strength of the faculty in our finance area  allows the Center to contribute new knowledge in important and highly relevant issues in corporate finance, yielding new methods, data and results to academics and industry participants.  Such research will consist not only of timely treatments of current issues, but also longer-horizon puzzles and problems in corporate finance.  The educational mission of the Center is supported by a generous commitment from  Wachovia. This funding allows the Center to promote excellence in the field of corporate finance through a variety of activities, including:

  • Annual Faculty Research Grants
  • Teaching Innovation Awards
  • Conferences in Applied Corporate Finance

Activities of the Center are under the supervision of Professor Anil Shivdasani, Wachovia Distinguished Professor of Finance.

  • Kenan-Flagler’s External Wachovia Case Competition was held in Chapel Hill on February 25th.

Wachovia Center for Corporate Finance at the University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School co-sponsors the Forum on Corporate Finance, May 12-13, 2005, at Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management in Evanston.

The Forum on Corporate Finance is the leading conference designed to promote close collaboration between senior corporate executives and nationally recognized scholars on critical, cutting-edge issues in corporate finance. While academics have had extensive impact on the general practice of investments, they have had a narrower impact on the practice of corporate finance - the collective financial decisions of the modern corporation. The Forum offers a chance to bridge this gap with substantial new insight into the economic nature of the many decisions affecting modern corporations.

The Forum on Corporate Finance will be holding its fifth annual conference this year.  Each year, a program committee comprised of corporate executives and academics designs a program that focuses on three main areas of interest. The format of the meetings is designed to have a high level of objectivity and balance, rich enough for participants to delve into a particular topic, yet broad enough to allow a genuine interchange between executives and researchers. Past participants have included senior finance executives from global organizations, Fortune 500 companies, mid-cap companies, as well as consulting firms and investment banks. You may view the program for this year's conference here.

Regional Wachovia Finance Case Competition took place at UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School on February 25, 2005. Congratulations to the KFBS team consisting of Bryan Berkey, Ryan Crane, Ogemdi Ike, and Jim Jones for their 3rd place finish in the 2005 Wachovia Regional Competition.  This year’s competition was as competitive as ever with the likes of Fuqua, Wharton, Darden, and Goizueta also participating. Professors Anil Shivdasani and Merih Sevilir helped in making this year’s competition a tremendous success. The event was sponsored by Wachovia Center for Corporate Finance.
